acquired by Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection & Archives

shown at 21c Museum Hotel Chicago

 [     ] Protection is an art book based on Fallout Protection: What To Know And Do About Nuclear Attack, a 1961 publication by the Department of Defense that I found in my grandfather’s apartment after his death.

[     ] Protection is made up of excerpts from the original text with all specifics redacted so that readers can apply it to any apocalyptic future they see coming.

It was later adapted into an audio piece, which was installed in an office phone and featured in the installations Department of Eschatology (2025) and For The World To Come (2026).
